Gender Crocus belongs to a group of perennial bulbous plants belonging to the family of the lilies (Iridaceae ). This genus is widely distributed in Europe, North Africa and Asia, with over 80 species. Most Crocus species are found in Mediterranean regions as the Balkans, Greece and the Middle East among others.
Its flowers are usually purple (rarely white). The leaves form in spring and disappear in the fall resulting in flowering. It is toxic in contrast to their relative growing near Saffron (Crocus sativus ). It looks delicate, is a bulbous plant, perennial, with long leaves and acintadas. Flowers are solitary, with 6 perianth parts grouped in two rows of three tepals each. These tepals are united in a long tube that emerges from the ground as a stem. The flowers appear when the leaves wither. Has three yellow stamens and a style orange
The saffron crocus or left to see our fields since September, when the cold start to act presence and the light gradually narrowing. And perhaps because of this, in some regions are better known by the name of "quitameriendas."
