Vinegar Will Turn Any Lesion White

1793 Plantation "Field Margins" FIELD MARGINS

Mount Serantes use is predominantly livestock thus to protect the "Field Magins " created, it is necessary to put a strong fence, to keep livestock away from the teeth of the new fields and hedgerows have been planted.

should be noted the difficulty of installing this fence because of the steep slope present in the field of action, in some areas exceeding 40%.

have been created so far 1,625 m 2 Field Margins, including 458 meters of hedgerows.

The species used in the composition of these hedges are

  • Hawthorn Blackthorn
  • Madroño
  • Hazel Arce
  • Rosal
  • less
  • Acebo
  • Crabapple
  • Spindle

The "Field Margins" have been established and hedgerows planted with the help of neighbors community, students of the Agricultural School of Derio " Itsasmendikoi " Institute students and I Axular kastola Itxasoko Santurtzi Ama, volunteers from the Association ACCEM users and Correctional Services Bilbao.

As you can see we try to include all possible sectors of the community in the work done without whom this project would not be a success. Report

that Naturgas Energy has funded all the 3,233 trees planted this year thanks to your program spend a euro to plant a tree for every customer who happened to electronic billing.

images I present in the hard and arduous process of creating the first "Field margins" in the bush Serantes.

Starting the new fence, Thanks Ramon!

Ramon and getting a stick to help of "Dolores".

Our friend Dolores has a twin sister, Martirio.

Oh my hands!. Now well understood why the call Dolores, right?.

Ramón opening a guide.

Iñigo not that he painted there, Neba is arranged perfectly alone.

Valla finished!

In this picture you can see the fence again. The old man passing by the center was dismantled, giving its owner the useful parts. Uselessness was recycled into the nearest Garbigune.

More helping hands, Habib, I (Manu), Txema (have you stopped smoking?) And his son.

As could be approached by a quality control technician on site to see the consistency of the fence.

Accem Members, Itsasmendikoi School and Workshop SERANTES NATURA, receiving instructions before you begin planting.

Charles staking.

First row of hedges terminated!

This

Once it is up to the students of the Santurtzi Axular.

Any help is always welcome!

We can only thank everyone who participated in this promising project.

THANKS!

Habitat fragmentation is considered one of the main causes of the current crisis of global biodiversity. The processes responsible for this fragmentation are diverse. The widespread phenomenon is the modification of it by man agricultural and livestock purposes and that, over the years has generated dramatic changes in native habitats. To get an idea, more than half the surface of our planet has been devoted to the practice of agriculture, livestock or planting of artificial forests.

The expansion of these agroecosystems is bringing serious consequences in terms of diversity is concerned, creating biogeographic islands which remain a number of species alarmingly lower than in native ecosystems. One way to alleviate to some extent these problems the creation "Field Margins" .

WHAT ARE THE FIELD MARGINS?

"Field Margins" English: Field = Campa, land and Margins = Margins, borders.

feral Field Margins are areas around the perimeter of crop fields and livestock, managed with the aim of providing new areas for the local flora and fauna and thus minimize the impact of livestock and agriculture may have on the environment in addition to increasing its diversity.

Field Margins These consist mainly of two parts: linear hedgerows and meadows.

hedgerows

The "hedges" besides fulfilling the role of boundary, are created in such a way that they form natural corridors for micro true mammals, and invertebrates. Also become an attraction for birds that nest inside and forts to be true predators to be composed by approximately sixty percent of thorny species such as hawthorn, blackthorn, dog rose etc. Clarify that always use native species that previously have found that locally grown naturally.

These hedges together add value to the ecosystem that individual trees can not. Are clear examples of Sustainable Development to become the representative elements of biodiversity conservation collated with the use of land, in our case livestock.

Other advantages of hedges:

1 .- absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

2 .- protect the land from wind erosion.

3 .- They provide shelter and shade for livestock.

4 .- improve the look of the landscape.

After 8 to 15 years we will evaluate the possibility of rejuvenating these hedges using the technique called " Hedgelaying ." This technique generates impregnable barriers against livestock, is largely developed in countries such as Ireland and the UK.

Some of the plants are left to develop up to mature trees in order to increase the ecological value of the hedge and enhance the landscape.

PRAIRIE LINEAR

hedgerows Parallel to reserve a strip of two to six meters wide that acts as a prairie. These strips contain grassland species of wildflowers and grasses can not compete with crops or are devastated by farming practices. The strips are used extensively by a great diversity of wildlife and become valuable habitats for many beneficial insects for farmers and as pest controllers. Our purpose is to manage these new habitats created as wildflower meadows. Its surface has been declining drastically worldwide due to agriculture, livestock, etc. urbanization in general.

: Sardines Warbler

The Sardinian warbler is a passerine insectivorous somewhat smaller than a sparrow with a length of about 12-14 cm. Adult males have a striking black cap that goes from the top of the beak to the nape, passing under the eye and contrasts with the white of her throat. The eye is of a reddish brown hue, and is framed by a red eye ring stands out against the black cap. The back is colored slate gray and the ventral region is a lighter shade of gray. The female and young have a similar design but more discrete, brownish hues dominate.

has a global distribution mainly circunmediterranean occupying all the peninsulas and large islands of the Mediterranean. It also is spread across North Africa and the Canary Islands.

The Sardinian warbler, but is considered a sedentary bird, you can make winter trips to warmer areas and postnuptial travel.

Within the Iberian Peninsula has expanded strongly during recent years, possibly due to a softening of the climate-reaching our shores through the Ebro Valley , natural corridor connecting the Mediterranean and Cantabrian coasts. In the Serantes we are aware of their presence from the second half of the 80's where it might observe in a very localized area. Today can be found in almost all of the mountain, always in character shrub habitats where grasses are lush and good size.

Within the Basque Catalogue of Threatened Species is registered in the category of "special interest". Considering its markedly thermophilic and that these coastal populations are at their limit of distribution area, are likely to be exposed to cold spells, but could seriously decimate their populations.

If you want to hear the claim of the Sardinian warbler give him the PLAY

Finally, thank Juan Manuel Pérez de Ana for giving the necessary information for this entry. By the way, give them around their blogs. Highly recommended.
